At Left:  Shiro Tani inspects the new Strath SWAN compound  (3" & 5" X 4") before it is  placed into the Tourboat 30 "Michinoku RI".  Shiro acted as interpreter at times when conversations between Walter and Akira Yasuda, Owner's Representative, broke down.  The differences in languages made for some difficulties at times., but success was reached.

At Left:  The oil fired Beckmann, Limited Model VFT-C30 ASME Code steam boiler provides more than enough steam to move her along at a good rate of speed, while operating with a distinct quietness.
Below:  This close up of the Swan engine shows the fine workmanship in the machining of the engine.

Above:  The crowd gathers at the Maritime Museum docks for the christening ceremony in Japan.  The Michinoku RI is the largest imported boat at the museum and, being steam powered, has created wide interest among the museum visitors and staff.
At Right:  Lloyd's wife Tawny performed the honor of pouring the wine over the bow during the festivities.  With the dedicated care of the museum staff, the Michinoku RI is certain to have a long and useful life.
